Less is more. If your subject has beautiful skin then let it show and just even out areas that need it. Use your makeup as an accessory to enhance as we use a belt to show off a waistline. For a close-up, ensure that foundation on skin and neckline is even tone/perfected and that your makeup application should be extremely precise and detailed. Ask to see a Polaroid if necessary. This will ensure that everyone is happy and that you are 100% satisfied with your work. A beautiful makeup should always appear clean, crisp and naturally enhancing no matter how much makeup you use. Grooming is key in beauty. Brows that may need to be slightly shaped, tweezed, and filled in, can show up in the shot. Yes, there is Photo shop, but there is no greater feeling for an artist than creating a beautiful image that can stand on its own without having to erase flaws that were left behind. Also pay attention to unwanted facial hair. Always consult with the talent and client before you do anything.
Use a lash comb to apply mascara at the very base of lashes for even colour distribution — especially for blonde lashes and medium format photography. Use a 221 Brush and Select Cover-up Concealer to
cover a blemish. Make sure you work off the back of your hand or a sponge to get the brush fibres open.
Then using the tip of the brush, stipple the Concealer and then press with a finger. Repeat process until
the blemish is covered. Select Cover-up Peach works really well at concealing and brightening around the eye area for paler skin tones. For darker skin, try Orange Full Coverage or Orange Cream Colour Base.
Don’t forget the skin on the ears and neck! Nothing shows how far you’ve gone on the face like the too pale or too dark throat area.. .or red ears. Use a bit of the face colour left on your brush to finish this area.
Be sure to prep the skin appropriately before starting with colour. Try this: Clean the face with Wipes or
Pro Eye Makeup Remover. Spray with Fix +. Then apply appropriate moisturizer (Moisture Feed Skin,
Studio Moisture Fix, or Oil Control Lotion) in two light layers rather than one heavy one.
